In what used to be part of a movie theater, the folks behind Cafe Milano opened a casual cousin to the hip Georgetown haunt in Dupont Circle. Sette Osteria has the look and feel of a casual Italian kitchen with terra cotta floors and bare wood tables with simple farmhouse-style wooden chairs. A welcoming bar extends along one wall, and large windows open up to the sidewalk in warm weather, providing prime people-watching seats. An open kitchen exposes a wood-burning oven that produces Neapolitan pizzas with toppings such as buffalo mozzarella, gaeta olives, salami and porcini mushrooms. For an authentic Italian feast, start with platter of cured Italian specialty meats served with house baked breads and olive oil to share with the table. Or choose from one of the antipasti, including calamari with spicy marinara sauce, mussels, and Italian sausage with broccoli rabe. A selection of hearty pastas includes Neapolitan baked meatball lasagna, cheese tortellini with green peas, mushrooms and cream sauce, and rigatoni with meat sauce. For a sweet finish, try the limoncello tiramisu or the mini Italian doughnuts with hazelnut filling.

Horrible Service/Pushy Bar
By chenze on 04/21/2006
I have always loved the quality of the pizza at Sette, but the local friendly feel is no longer an important trait at this establishment. On numerous occassions, I have noted the staff at the bar seating their own friends at the bar while others patiently wait. They are also pushing more cocktails in a demanding and expecting tone while interrupting others peaceful conversations. And the warm smiles and welcomes have bittered into " are you finished and ready for another round?" There are plenty of lovely places in the city with an ounce of class, and I recommend management slow down enough to take these service providers learn a thing or two from nicer staffs.

Not that fabulous or Italian
By alexandrafastov on 06/06/2005
The place looks hoppin' and tasty -- I won't deny it. That's why we went in after a quick menu of the day peruse. But once we were sat, we learned they were out of the single "Fish of the Day." It was Memorial Day weekend, they should have expected a big crowd and planned better. No problem, though. I opted for scallops, hold the fennel. They forgot to hold the fennel, it was mounded on top. The scallops were solidly good (not great). When I asked the waiter for a green besides the fennel, he looked at me like it was my fault for not liking fennel, not his for forgetting to leave it out as requested. Friends liked the pizza allright, but again, also said it was nothing special they'd return for. Appearances, particularly of the Italian restaurant variety, can be deceiving...because we want them to be! I'm still looking for 'that' osteria in DC to be like my second wine cellar called home...

The best pizza in town.
By giustodc on 05/25/2005
At Sette there is a very nice atmosphere, relaxed and yet elegant, the true Italian style. The pizza, obviously, very good, like the one you would find in an Italian Osteria. But they also serve a variety of Southern Italian dishes accompanied by an excellent wine list. I recommend it, and when you go don't be afraid to wear your latest Armani outfit, it will fit well in the ambience.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!
By rpaulh on 05/21/2005
they drop salads on you, spill red wine on you, and then tell you its your fault - after they ignore you first. DO NOT GO!!!!! (plus, their management is psycho, so they can't hire capable staff) ps. it's too bad, b/c the food is good, except fo the $11 salads - horrible value!
