Rate and Write a Review On a tree-lined sidewalk next to MacArthur Boulevard, Kotobuki is wedged in the upstairs nook of a red brick townhouse. While its high-end neighbor Makoto requires business attire to sample its very pricey Japanese cuisine, Kotobuki serves up the best bargain sushi in town. Its bare bones interior matches the pared-down menu, offering top-quality fish at prices you won't believe. Nigri or hand-formed sushi is $1 per piece, with yellow tail, toro (fatty tuna) and salmon topping out at $2 each. While diners sip sake and don't seem to mind the all-Beatles soundtrack, Chef-Owner Hisao Abe whips up Kamameshi rice casseroles topped with your choice of chicken, eel or vegetables. These comforting hot pot dishes are cooked in a traditional iron kettle and arrive steaming with rich aromas. The pint-sized eatery seats just 20, but service is genial and the quality and price can't be beat.
