The play on words starts with the restaurant's name and is unleashed all over this hot dog joint's menu. The Coney Island-style dogs served here are named after dog breeds, so put on your best Westminster Dog Show announcer voice and take your pick of the litter. There's the Boxer (with chili), the German Shepard (with sauerkraut) and the Hound Dog (with coleslaw). Or mix and match your own toppings, from jalapenos and grilled onions to cheese sauce and bacon. Besides the all-beef dogs, Joe's serves up bratwurst and kielbasa, plus a handful of sides (think fries and onion rings) and non-hot dog choices such as a cheese steak sub. Puppy Packs for kids include fries and a drink with a choice of a hot dog, corn dog or chicken fingers. The downtown Herndon restaurant has been filling up hot dog buns since 2002 in a corner space with 30 seats. The decor is diner chic with chrome chairs and tables, and black, white and red tiles. Photos of dogs adorn the walls. Joe's Dog House also provides catering, with a push-cart hot dog stand available for rent.
