In a fickle restaurant town, longevity counts for something, and Famous Luigi's has been holding strong since 1943. This comfortable and homey old-world Italian restaurant leads with its strong suit -- an impressive list of pizza toppings waiting to be assembled and delivered to your table, or to your door. Forget about those formulaic yuppie pies with names that herald romantic regions or long departed Italians. At Luigi's, only you know which combination of 42 possible toppings wins the jackpot. This eatery is the ticket if you hanker for a pizza that's as substantial as it is unique -- even if it's as unusual as anchovies, eggplant and Italian sausage, or one with calamari, pine nuts and clams. For those with hearty appetites, Luigi's also has a seemingly endless list of pastas, like manicotti di ricotta, and assaggini luigi, a combination of tortellini, agnolotti and ravioli, as well as generously portioned entrees, like chicken marsala and scaloppini of veal. -- Elisabeth Frater

Wonderful food and service
By kelly12777 on 01/06/2007
I had not been to Luigis in years but took a group and really enjoyed it. The guys all got a dark Italian beer with our salads and calamari - a good reco from our server. We got a huge pizza with pepperoni/mushrooms on one side and pesto/artichoke hearts on the other- great flavros and thiiner biscuity type crust. I remember more puff to the crust but this was really good too. Wish I lived closer as so many things looked great on the menu.

We went there twice
By stunneroo7 on 08/25/2006
My girlfriend and I went to this place twice during our 5 day vacation. The pasta is excellent and the pizza is top notch. The servers are very accommodating. The only thing that we did not care for was the Tiramisu, it had a lot more rum than espresso soaking the ladyfingers. We had it taken back and they promplty brought out the spumoni that we had asked for as a replacement, it was great. This place is somewhere you must stop.

Look, Luigi's is the best pizza ever, no doubt about it. Believe me, I have eatin just about every pizza known to man, this pizza rocks the house. I don't work in DC anymore, but miss this place terribly. I wish they delivered 60 miles away.
