Why is the pizza at Faccia Luna so good? Is it the light, crispy crust? Is it the rich tomato sauce? The fresh toppings? Whatever the reason, once you've sampled Faccia Luna's luscious pie, it's hard to go back to Domino's. Faccia Luna has three locations in the DC area (and one in State College, Pa.). The Alexandria location is perched at the southernmost end of South Washington Street, near the opening of the George Washington Parkway, in a block-long strip of restaurants and shops. It has a lively bar that fills up with Old Town locals after work and stays busy into the late hours. Start with a couple of drinks at the bar and then segue to a table to chow down. In addition to pizza, Faccia Luna serves up a mix of good salads, sandwiches and house-made pastas. In warm weather you can sit outside on the patio for some alfresco dining -- if you don't mind the noise of cars and buses blustering by.
