After a long wait, the visual and performing arts at American University gained a unified, permanent home in July 2005. With over 130,000 square feet of instructional, exhibition and performance space, you'll discover something new every time you explore the Katzen Arts Center. The three floors of gallery space house national traveling and regional contemporary art, as well as the permanent Watkins and Katzen Collections. The permanent collections feature well known artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Henri Matisse as well as lesser known, local artists such as Gene Davis and Sam Gilliam. If you're feeling inspired by all that art, sign up for workshops in the studio space to tap into your own talent. Or, just come by during museum hours to wander through the gallery and sculpture garden. -- Caroline Morse
