You're not in a restaurant; you're in somebody's dining room. At least it sure feels like it. Will wait staff come to your table... or your aunt Gladys? When did she get all this really nice tableware? Oh, wait, you're in Forepaugh's! Talk about cozy -- here is the ideal setting for any important moment or conversation. An elegant, 1870 Victorian house that bears the name of its builder offers equally elegant dining and ambience. The cuisine is fine French, served in one of many rooms where St. Paul's business elite likely supped and discussed their profits and losses. Veal, lamb, duckling and other tender meats are prepared and served with panache. Sautees and sauces also lightly accent the seafoods and vegetables. The light of candles and fireplaces lends a mellow aura, and no one suddenly whoops because the home team scored. Enjoy your coffee, just try to ignore the dessert cart, and talk to your dining partner about whatever moves you. You may turn to the topic of Sunday brunch, which at Forepaugh's is a notch above the usual. And if you're on a date that goes extraordinarily well, you might just end up talking about holding your wedding banquet here. -- John Sharpe

New and IMPROVED
By lovedining on 09/07/2008
I went to dinner at forepaughs tonight with three or my girlfriends and found a whole new Forepaughs. I found out from our waitress(Who was beyond amazing and insightful) that Bruce Taher had bought and put 2 million dollars into this victorian house. The menu is new american, with suprising flavor pops! I split mussels(that litterally come out sizzling), Bacon shrimp, and putine(cansdian carnival food). For dinner I had Lamb that just melted in my mouth. For wine we did a bottle of this rare pinot noir that was suggested by their wine consultant, who blew us all away! For desert we all had to have our own- 2 Bannana cream pie(which is nothing traditional) , a parfait of dark choclate, and fresh fruit with housemade marscopone! Some fun facts I found were that molly, the ghost, still inhabits the building with her practical jokes. They have an herb garden on display for all to see(they actully use this in their food. My only complaint is that I wish I had an option for side items like potatoes and veggies. I will definitly be back again to visit the revamped and impressive forepaughs!

how disappointing
By eaukrust on 10/09/2006
The place is beautiful, the prices not bad, my son and his girlfriend both said it was the best steak they had ever eaten, but that is where it ended; I had duck and it had so much sauce that was all you tasted and they would be better off serving canned wild rice, we were on the second floor and only one waiter, dessert looked great but when we expressed interest our waiter took a break to visit with other staff and by the time he returned we were more then ready to leave Forepaugh's.

Not for Prom

The food was very spendy for the quality and size of servings and the rooms are not very spacious for big groups.

An Old Favorite

For many years, Forpaughs has been my favorite restaurant for both its superb dining (not just French....try the Beef Wellington!) and ambiance that is truly romantic. You will love the evening.
