The Xcel Energy Center opened to great fanfare in 2000, as NHL hockey returned to the Twin Cities for the first time since the Minnesota Stars left town for Dallas. The state-of-the art arena seats more than 18,500 and has site lines to die for. A 360-degree SoundVision board and four whopping Jumbotron screens make sure that replays and up-close views of the action aren't missed by anyone. For the casual hockey fan, the Xcel is easy to love -- the cheap seats (more than 4,500) in the upper level are 30 feet closer to the ice than any other arena in North America. The sparkling arena has hosted a steady stream of big-name artists like the Three Tenors, Bob Dylan, Moody Blues, Cher, No Doubt and the Boss -- Mr. Bruce Springsteen. A solid audio system provides a great listener experience -- even from the previously mentioned cheap seats. Parents of teens should ask about the "family room"; parents or chaperones of young concert goers can relax here, without ticket purchase, throughout the event; it's not always available, inquire prior to concert date. -- Lisa Galloway Extras: Family restrooms are available on every level of the arena, making things just a little easier on parents attending with younger children. Ask about On the Glass seating -- pricey, but worth it to have nothing but plexiglass between you and the action.
