This athletics club would be absolutely perfect if it was free and open to the public. As it stands, the membership fee seems to be the only real loss to joining this spectacular facility. Housed in a vintage 1928 building, this club offers all of the modern conveniences you could want from a fitness center. Racquetball courts, nautilus and ski machines, an indoor golf course, physical therapy sessions and hair salon privileges only begin to describe the Calhoun Beach Club's offerings. Classes are also available -- with courses covering everything from ballet dancing to pilot training -- as are team and club memberships, first-class dining services and swimming lessons. Be forewarned: Many classes and activities result in additional fees charged directly to your membership account, so be aware of what your membership price includes. Even without all the "extras," the Calhoun Beach Club can provide plenty of luxuries for you and your family. -- Stacy Noyes

Not too busy,amazing facility
By frugalfinancier on 12/16/2007
I've been a gym member here for 4+years. It is never so busy I have to wait for a machine or treadmill, etc. It is clean and the staff are very friendly. It is expensive but, it is in an expensive neighborhood in the Minneapolis Lakes district and right on Lake Calhoun so, it is in a high-demand location, hence the prices. The outdoor pool is a dream in the warm months. Drinks and food are available from servers while you wait in the sun or under an umbrella on an adjustable chaise. Towels & water are free.

Janniegirl's review sounds more like an advertisment than a review. I worked out here with a friend a few times, then I stopped. This place is not for me. Is it an OK club? Yes. Is it worth what it charges? Absolutely not. You can get a decent workout here, but the same can be said for a lot of clubs. It has a VERY frou frou snotty atmosphere where people go to talk business, brag about their affulence---the club is located in a very high rent area, which would explain why you get much less than you pay for---or to hook up with a potential date. The interior leaves something very much to be desired. They are trying to pass of an old building and old furniture as 'modern interior design' (and if you've dined anywhere in the warehouse district, you know what I'm talking about.) Throw in a $20.00 smoothie, and the frou frou atmosphere is complete.

This club's target market is for thin people who keep a continuous supply of Cristal in their wine cabinent. There are better clubs in the city that offer much more solid traditional workouts, for a lot less money. I say 'thin people' because CBC is one of those clubs that caters to people who are already thin. I have seen the staff and the trainers look down and provide very poor service to people who were obviously overweight. So, if you don't already have Brittney(Spears) abs, DO NOT patronize this club.
