Since 1988, Frankies Inner City has offered an alternative to the usual bar scene. Once the only place to hear alternative music or try out blue hair and black nail polish, today it's one of the few places to feature only original local and national acts. The upstairs stage, which once played host to big names like the Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana, now features a wide range of alternative, hip-hop, retro, hippy, metal and experimental bands. Tuesday nights feature The Big Guitars, a Toledo music tradition. On Wednesday nights, people step behind the open mike to read poetry or solidify their status as up-and-coming musical talent. Venture to the upstairs bar and youll find a wide selection of imported and microbrewed beers on tap and too many drink specials to count. Make your way into Frankies legendary basement and you'll discover a prototypical urban dance club complete with a second bar, dance floor and DJ booth. There youll hear a wide variety of music -- everything from goth to drum-and-bass to '80s alternative classics -- spun by top local and regional DJs. If you're not in the mood to dance, play some games at the bars Sony PlayStation or cruise on up to the outdoor deck to hang with some friends.

Never go on wednesday
By mistyrayne22 on 05/03/2003
I enjoy Frankies on Saturday night sometimes on Friday. They have good up and coming bands that play there. The drinks dont come to cheap however. Saturday night in the basement is goth/industrial music. Wednesdays are too ghetto for me however.
