There is no shortage of Mexican-themed eateries in metropolitan St. Louis, and that's a good thing -- until it comes time to separate the real deal from those perpetrating as authentic. Make no mistake: The family that runs Lily's in South City means it when they boast ''homestyle Mexican food'' on their menu. Lily's offers a variety of specials that are served with all the fixins' you could require, including tamales, chicken asado, a carne asada plate, chiles rellenos and enchiladas. However, if you don't think you'll need the full meal deal, burritos, tortas, tostadas and tacos (soft or hard shell) are also available, and if the little ones don't dig the idea of Mexican food, suggest a kid's meal with chicken nuggets or hot dog. Sample the seven flavorful sauces at the unique salsa bar, savor Mexican beers and margaritas, and finish up with Lily's flan for dessert before departing.
