The massive native cypress- paneled dining hall, with mandatory fish trophies hung on the walls, and the airy veranda (not a porch, mind you, a ve-ran-dah) set an elegant scene for the mostly well-to-do types who stay at the lodge or use it as a base camp for charter expeditions. The menu is, as expected, seafood-dominated and features local dishes like frog legs and stone crab claws. Prices fit the fancy environs, but still are not outlandish for the fine fare and service.

Great Place, truly old Florida
The Rod & Gun Club is truly a wonderful place.. I've eaten there many times and have always found the food excellent and the ambiance charming. It's is obvious that the person who wrote the negative review has no appreciation of history or would be able to appreciate the real Florida that some of us natives miss so much. After all, Marco Island bears no relation to reality, with no native vegetation or landscape left to see. It's too bad that more people don't try to appreciate Florida's natural beauty and cuisine instead of trying to change it to a landscape that has never existed in this wonderful state with its complex and delicate ecosytem.
Pathetic, to say the least
I'm living in Florida (Marco Island) 6 years. I recenlty for the first time visited the Rod & Gun Club. Only because I heard so many times that it was the olae to go. So, like so many others I drove south on 41 to Everglades City, to the Rod & Gun club. Only good thing I can say about the place is the highly varnished wood that abound in the interior. If you sit on the veranda as we had, you would face a canal aproximately 30 feet wide watching old neglected boats passing by. perhaps in the hour we sat there we seen 2 boats pass. The food was sub digestible. Terrible. The service was pathetic. So........To say I've been there, and done that is all I can comment of the Rod & Gun Club. Personally, save yourself the trip.
Jewel of the Everglades
We had whole fish, pompano grilled to perfection.
there were 9 in our group and 6 ordered the pompano for lunch. None were disappointed.
The verandah was a wonderful setting. watching the air boats go by.
The entire setting was worth the trip.
We will definitely be sure to return.
reccommend lunch for the view.
