You may feel like you've just entered a New Orleans jazz club when you step inside this friendly two-story hangout. The romantic candlelit tables and wooden framed pictures give the impression of a cozy evening at a close friend's home. You are likely to hear an Ella Fitzgerald-like vocalist performing with a band on the tiny stage in the corner. The club touts its "Live music every damn night" slogan, which is a rare treat in this DJ/trance dance neighborhood. The live music is always rhythm and blues, jazz or Motown. Redesigned by the team of Patrick Kennedy Inc., Jazid successfully accommodates two distinctive scenes in its 5,000-square-foot space. While the lower half is warm, dark and jazzy, the upstairs is oh-so-mod and space-age cool. This second-floor area is a great place to chill with friends or strike up a game of pool. A retro blue-and-green glow is cast around the lounge/dance area, and a DJ spins original, laid-back grooves. Trippy blue and green glob images are projected on suspended, curvy white cutouts. Jazid is widely known for its original drink recipes created by the club's "mixologist." The drinks are made from fresh fruits and often garnished with edible flowers. Sample exotic blends like apple and banana martinis or the notorious Ruby, as seen on 'Sex and the City.' --Monica Cady
