This inn, which is owned by JoAnn and David Lesh, has a full garden out back, and it shows in David's cooking. For breakfast, he'll serve homemade granola with rhubarb sauce, spruce tip syrup on sourdough pancakes or homemade bread smeared with his own preserves. Among the dinner selections are fresh salmon and halibut, dungeness crab (fresh from Icy Strait), garnished with fresh-picked raspberries, baby carrots and crisp lettuce from the garden, followed by homemade desserts. One local gives Gustavus Inn three stars.Like other local restaurants, the Gustavus Inn serves dinner family-style. Decor is contemporary Alaskan: the entire inn is decorated with playful paintings by Rie Munoz, an Alaskan artist who paints wildlife, Alaskan natives, and Alaskan life in general. JoAnn herself has recently taken up painting, and has hung some of her own works on the inn's walls.
