Don't let the fact that Chapel used to be a funeral home freak you out -- in fact, allow yourself to be mystified and titillated by its darkened past. After all, what other bar in Seattle has vaulted ceilings this high or a wooden interior this crafted? With mirrored walls and a grand balcony deeply embedded in history, you might think you have just stepped into a medieval museum -- except, that is, for the obvious signs of Capitol Hill chic. Most notably, the stark white furniture and milky stone bar bring a sense of funky future to this domain's Gothic past. Fine wines, cocktails and (especially) martinis also sleek up the surroundings, as does an impressive menu of fashionable favorites. The clientele, however, are the most obvious mode of contemporary decor, as many of them embody just the kind of classy funk that this area is best known for. And really, what could be more stylish than to strike a pose in a converted funeral home anyway?
