Family owned and operated for nearly three decades, Sundance has long been a Bay Area favorite among discerning steak lovers. Situated on El Camino near Stanford University, the restaurant attracts all kinds of people to its woodsy, candlelit dining room for some of the best cuts of meat on the Peninsula. The place is populated with business types during the lunch hour, but in the evening you can also spot Stanford students dining with their visiting parents and starry-eyed couples in search of a romantic evening on the town. Specializing in their award-winning prime rib, Sundance also boasts an extensive wine list featuring quality vintages from abroad and from right here at home (Cupertino's Ridge Vineyards' zinfandels top the long list of choice selections). The reasonably priced menu is also rife with non-steak options including a variety of fresh seafood and chicken dishes. -- Maya Kroth

The steaks are great. I have a friend who just eats steak and sour cream and no vegetables and he always wants to go to Sundance and gets something line a 24 ounce steak and 5 Tangaray and tonics. Amazing that he isn't dead! But I order the halibut and sometimes it is a reasonable size and sometimes I can barely find it on the dish. The service in the bar is nasty at best. You have to ask for a napkin and the waitress seems to be too busy to get your drink. The sashimi is very fresh and the salads are good, but the place is so dark that you practically can't walk around without a guide dog. Not a favorite place - but if you are seeking pure good prime rib or steak, this is the place.

There prices are higher than what you'd pay for other places, but they have a great wine selection and their food is superb.
