Occupying the space vacated by the short-lived but acclaimed Pinxtos, Ramblas, also a tapas house, has its work cut out for it. Gone are the dazzling murals and colors and the interesting, sometimes exciting tapas that Pinxtos created. In its place, so far, is food that leaves much to be desired. Dishes like Albondigas (meatballs) feature hard, small and flavorless meatballs in a bland tomato sauce. The ever popular tapas menu item, Potatas Bravas, with fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce, doesn't have the desired crispy outside and soft potato inside. Rambas does offer lower prices and good, friendly service. Plus, there aren't a lot of tapas restaurants in the Mission District, so this one is likely to get some attention. The restaurant will have to work harder to keep it. -- Scott Sax
