You’ll feel right at home at Norfolk Woods Inn, a treasure in a maze of charming and rustic restaurants in Tahoe. Located on the west side of Lake Tahoe, before the steep climb to Emerald Bay, is this 1930s homespun beauty with five quaint cottages tucked out of sight at the rear of the property. Award-winning chef Michael Schwerdtfeger and his wife, Kristin, are the duo that makes dining here a treat. Just let him know that your palate is in his hands and with a day’s notice, Michael will design a feast especially for you. His award-winning Emerald Bay lamb is an outstanding dish of layered grilled eggplant, roasted red peppers and caramelized onions, topped with a pecan pesto over a tomato-basil vinaigrette. The meat dishes here often outshine the seafood offerings: worthy creations include house-made turkey-cranberry sausage, a consommé of pheasant, duck and turkey and a caramelized rib-eye with a trio of onions. Each entrée is paired with a suggested wine from the restaurant’s impressive collection. A wide array of imported beers are available, too. This restaurant remains one of Tahoe’s best.
