As the name implies, La Taqueria differs from the usual Mission joint in its focus on the taco -- a far more authentic Mexican dish, and one that is much less forgiving of tough meat or less-than-ripe produce. And here you'll find only the best ingredients, including carne asada (grilled beef) that's slightly spicy and always juicy, excellent house-made salsa, a griddled corn tortilla and spiced pinto beans that could be a meal in themselves. Burritoheads either loathe La Taqueria or love it. Some complain that charging for extras means that for less money you can get a meal that's twice as large and just as tasty, adding that the buzz on this place equals bad service and lines out the door, especially for lunch. But LT lovers point to the lard-laden tortilla slightly crisped on the grill, the delicious beans, the avocado slices in place of guacamole and the lack of rice as filler to illustrate burrito perfection. Nobody can deny the two mysterious pulls of La Taqueria, though: the tender, well-seasoned meat (carne asada and carnitas, deep-fried shredded pork, are most popular, though fans of tongue and grilled chicken also abound) and the delicious aguas frescas, an addictive fruit drink. Try the mango or the melon as you wait for your meal on a sunny day under the arcaded mini-patio -- if you can find a seat. -- Julie Ross

Don't waste your money!

Shameful, horrible, nasty.... I tried this place based upon the 5 Star Rating. Oh, how wrong. I purchased 2 Carne Asada Taco's with Cheese and Avocado. Unbeknownst to me they put beans and a huge scoop of some kind of tomato pico stuff on it that I didn't ask for. They don't even offer lettuce. Oh by the way a taco only needs a single tortilla. I only ate part of the first one and tossed the second because the taste of "Grease" and "Zero Flavor". Oh yeah. There's no salsa so you can spice it up either. There is NO service. There is no menu so you can really see what your going to get. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! You've been warned. I ate there an hour ago and I still have the taste of grease in my mouth. Let's see $11.50 for the taco' s and small drink and $1.50 tip. That's $13 bucks for the worst food I ever had.

Best Carnitas Burrito WORLD!
By mkm613 on 03/29/2006
I've taken 1AM $25.00 each way cab rides to La taqueria for the only post bar hopping food that will satisfy. Their Carnitas Burrito is to San Francisco what a Cheese Steak is to Philly or a Lobster Roll is to Maine. I am planning my spring vacation to SF around taking my kids there, they've heard stories from my college days, and I'm sure they will switch allegiance from In 'N Out Burgers to LT!
