Rate and Write a Review The famous Marina steakhouse is named after one of San Francisco's most colorful characters from the 1930s, barkeeper Izzy Gomez. Izzy's looks from the outside like a saloon, but once you are seated in the comfy banquettes, you'll spy a shelf holding what looks like every steak sauce ever manufactured. That's your clue: Order steak, although the chops and other entrees aren't bad. The assortment of accompaniments -- potatoes, roasted carrots and onions, and especially the creamed spinach -- are winners. The main courses include New York sirloin steak, filet mignon, barbecue baby back ribs and double thick pork chops and come with a choice of two side dishes, such as shoe string potatoes, creamed spinach or Izzy's own potatoes. The wine list, although excellent, is extensive and expensive. Some obligatory seafood specialties -- Maine lobster tail, grilled king salmon filet and peppered swordfish -- are also on the menu, as are many tasty appetizer dishes and dessert standards. Keep in mind that this is a restaurant that considers a hamburger with gouda cheese to be a "light" course, so be prepared to loosen your belt as well as your wallet.
