Rate and Write a Review If the dark wood and fireplaces don't clue you in, you'll realize House of Prime Rib is a throwback when you see the MSG-laden "special seasoning" the servers sprinkle on the salad they dress, spinning it over a bowl of ice, at the table. This being California, they ask you if you want it. You should say yes; after all, you're not here for your health. A retro vibe and affordable menu mean you'll probably have a wait for your table; spend it with a martini at the bar (everyone does). You could move to wine with dinner, but the list isn't special; bring a bottle (corkage is $15) or cocktail it. It would be sadistic to bring a vegetarian here, "fish of the day" notwithstanding. Your real choices are rare, medium or well-done; thin versus thicker cut; mashed or baked potato; mild horseradish or spicy. Enormous meals also come with salad, creamed spinach and tasty Yorkshire pudding. Then the prime rib cart -- looking like a miniature Airstream trailer -- is wheeled over, and carving ensues. The pace of service is brisk, though seconds of juicy prime rib are free. A kids' meal makes this place a favorite for families and the bar makes it good for groups. The ambience is lively and pretty much everyone walks out happy.
