Frisson is meticulously hip, and here's our checklist of why: mod, airport-lounge feel of the circular dining room with its orange Eero Saarinen chairs and snaking banquettes; a huge, pink-and-yellow polka-dotted light fixture above (meant to suggest Champagne bubbles) reflected in wine glasses and silverware; the art, DJs and cool cocktails in the dark bar/lounge area; the small outdoor area landscaped by goth gardener Paxton Gate; the wall of screen in the private-party-perfect downstairs "cinema room" and the cool trough sink in the disconcertingly unisex bathrooms. The restaurant even has a signature aroma (a pleasant mix of pepper, grapefruit and ginger). But this is no place just to see and be seen: Chef Sarah Schafer's menu is edgy, but not intimidating, focusing flavors on local ingredients. And hungry, hungry hipsters can rejoice: Frisson serves a late-night menu from 10PM until 1AM, and the chef's focus on interesting combos extends to the signature cocktail list (try the margarita with cilantro).
