Dottie's is indeed true blue, an island of homey, first-class cooking in a marginal Tenderloin neighborhood. Sadly, it is not a secret anymore, as evidenced by the smiles on the faces of the people snaking down Jones Street as they wait in line to get inside for breakfast. Dottie's bakes its own scones, pastries, breads and muffins, and even makes its own chipotle pepper jelly. House favorites are the fantastic blueberry cornmeal pancakes, served with real maple syrup; French toast made from homemade white bread drenched in heavy cream; and the black bean cakes, which are a kind of vegetarian sausage patty, served with homemade salsa, grilled corn bread, eggs and potatoes. The coffee is great, too, and you can get a cappuccino or latte. Did we mention the pancakes already? They're downright addictive. Dottie's, with its blue checked tablecloths and special homespun vibe, is the breakfast place to take your special friends, and lunch is almost as good.

best omelette in town and THEN there's all the other stuff!

At first I loved Darla's in the Inner Sunset, and still do, but then I had Dottie's breakfast and was even more wowed. There's a long line, but boy is it worth it. They have marvelous eggs, pancakes and other amazing things I haven't begun to order. It's only a block away from me, so I have no excuse not to go back and try them all. Okay, maybe the line keeps me from heading there once a week, but it really is worth it.

The small eating areas are a bit tight and it is definitely busy. The inside surroundings are old and nostalgic and remind me what cafes were like many years past. I LIKE THAT! All the food was excellent , judging by all the happy faces at their tables. I recommend add the french toast to any of their entree as it is the best i have ever tasted. Im in Frisco one weekend a year and Dotties is the one place I always go to for saturday breakfest. Note sundays the line is always longer
