Plenty of Wine Country restuarants emulate the charm of small bistros in Southern France, but Bouchon's brand of chic has an urban feel about it. The bright colors of the country are replaced with gleaming metal, glass and mirrors, and while it still feels French, the room is more Paris than Provence. The menu also salutes Parisian cuisine, and does so with modern sensibilities. Rest assured, you'll always find beloved dishes like croque madame, steak frites, brandade and pot de crme, but you'll also find updated versions with lighter results. Chef Jeffrey Cerciello's reliance on the best seasonal ingredients ensures fresh clean tastes alongside heavier classic dishes. It would be easy for Bouchon to rest on reputation since it was opened by Thomas Keller of French Laundry fame. But eat here once and you'll see this restaurant has merits all its own. Besides gorgeous menu selections, guests are encouraged to enjoy their meal in relaxed fashion, whether at a table, the bar or outdoors. And while most of the valley gets sleepy early, you can always enjoy an aperitif here long after most places have closed their doors. -- Jamie Junghans

Felt like a European eatery
By WineLover6907 on 07/23/2008
My husband made a reservation at Buchon after failing to get reservations at French Laundry. After eating there, I'm glad we ended up at Bouchon. The dining room was crowded and loud, and felt like we were at a trendy bistro in Europe. French menus often intimidate me, but there were multiple options that sounded amazing. The food was spectacular and the wine list is amazing. If you're heading to wine country, this is a must for a special dinner!

Good Food but crowded seating

Very classic Bistro cuisine, however while there on a Sunday night, we spent some of the time leaning left and right to allow the servers more room to pass. Food was great though!!!!!!!!!

Arrogant service
By felipeleblond on 02/17/2004
The food would indeed deserve five stars, but as the service is worth at least minus 4, we get a one star restaurant. I made a reservation, got there and they put me on the worst table available, in the passage way, noisy, no table coth. A real bistro table, but of those that normally are on the sidewalk, not inside. When I asked how to get a better table next time, the arrogant hostess responded with an icy smile: just ask...

I love this restaurant. I go there for special occasions and get the foie gras appetizer. Expensive but well worth it.
