Known more as a posh nightclub than a spot for dancing, Harlow's has become -- by dint of a remodeling that has tripled the size of the dance floor -- one of the best places to get your swerv' on in Sacramento. The downstairs of Harlow's remains much the same -- carefully coiffed women mingle, cocktail in hand, with nattily attired gentleman, only sometimes taking a break to dance to the music. Upstairs in the lounge, however, the well-choreographed dating rituals have given way to a pretty raucous party atmosphere.

Upstairs you tend to find fashion shows, theme nights and DJs. Known for their infectious mix of disco, funk and soul, Double Funk Crunch -- a band with a sartorial style that borrows rather comically from early '90s house act Dee-Lite (you?ll have to see it to believe it) -- often takes control of the dance floor on Saturday nights, whereas Sundays play host to Salsa Night. Popular bands like the Chesseballs (disco) and Tainted Love (retro '80s) play regularly as well. And if all that isn?t enough to win you over, be advised that a Sacramento King or two has been spotted getting funky on the dance floor as well.

The restaurant here is also worth checking out. The fusion cuisine -- Italian-Cali-Asian -- is served in a supperclub atmosphere. Entrees could include pork ribs Sangiovese or pork Ossobuco, cooked in sherry and served over sweet potatoes. -- Staff
