The Emperor's Garden is a lush oasis in the heart of downtown Reno. Behind a row of glass doors sits this well-appointed dining room filled with plants and flowers and tall-backed, carved- mahogany chairs with seat cushions covered in red- and-gold brocade silk. You'll find the basics like chow mein, hot-and-sour soup, egg rolls, fried rice and such, but there are also less- frequently-seen dishes such as amaranth (also known as Chinese spinach) topped with preserved eggs; shredded duck and conpoy (dried sea scallops) soup; deep-fried quail; and stewed duck with taro and bean paste. For those with a taste for spice, there are plenty of Szechuan and Hunan dishes from which to choose. The lunch menu includes daily specials that cost about $5.95. The late-night menu features noodle soups, rice plates and porridge.
