Located in a brick retail building at the corner of Weaver and West Main, the N.C. Crafts Gallery is just what you'd expect -- a local gallery that exhibits and sells works made by North Carolina artists and artisans. The setting is typical art gallery: white walls and modular display pieces, a few touches of live greenery and lots of natural light from the big front windows. What's atypical is the North Carolina focus, and the fact that the gallery is jam-packed, with sun catchers, quilts, jewelry and woodcarvings occupying nearly every inch of display space, including the walls. Refreshingly, the gallery carries not only traditional crafts such as pottery, folk art and baskets, but also contemporary crafts as well, including whimsical porcelain statuary, garden art and blown glass. Each month, the gallery exhibits two new N.C. artists; you can check out their work on the gallery's official Web site.
