With sunset views of the Columbia River and Mount Hood and wraparound decks during warmer weather, and there's barely a bad seat in the house at this outpost of the regional chain. During the week, Salty's mostly draws business travelers from nearby airport hotels rather than casual or special-occasion diners from the city. But on weekends, the parking lot fills up and reservations are a necessity. On Friday and Saturday you can sip cocktails and listen to live jazz in the Cafe, the restaurant's scaled-down dining area. Food here isn't as creative or gourmet as the prices might suggest, but everything is freshly prepared and well presented. There's a wide selection of starters, including baked baby brie with fruit; crispy fried calamari with citrus aioli; and tempura- and coconut-dipped tiger prawns with sweet, Thai-chili sauce. The seafood chowder and blackened-salmon Caesar are standouts. Pasta, chicken and beef selections are tasty, but Salty's is, after all, all about seafood: try its wide variety with a wine off the extensive list. On Sundays, Salty's throws a massive breakfast buffet, offering traditional breakfast items, nearly every kind of seafood imaginable and a selection of desserts.

Anymore, you never know what you're going to get at Salty's. That's too bad, since it's an expensive place to eat. Sometimes the food is great, but other times it is sub-par. The last time I we were there the food was served cold, the bread tasted old, and service was less-than-stellar. We'll think twice about going the next time we're in th area.

The moment we arrived (on time) we were shown to our table, an excellent choice with a window. The service was superb and the food fanastic. You just could not improve on anything. It seems that rarely are the ambience, service and food all on an equal footing but Salty's manages beautifully. Simply a friendly, wonderful place.

While visiting in Portland, we had Sunday Brunch at Salty's. We found the staff to be very friendly and the food was excellent. We enjoyed the meal very much and when in Portland, would return.
