For top-drawer European cuisine, look no further: Paley's Place is a gourmet's wonderland. Delicacies such as escargot, kobe beef steak tartare, roasted lamb, and sauteed sweetbreads rack the menu, while local organic produce and Northwest culinary treasures cast a savory spell over every plate that leaves Vitaly Paley's kitchen. Regulars stop by for steamed mussels, hand-cut fries and a cool lemon drop or Manhattan, while others choose Paley's as a romantic wine and dine spot, indulging for hours. The cedar-planked Chinook salmon, served with sauteed young summer vegetables and miso butter, is divine. And the partially roasted/partially grilled lamb served with stuffed tomato Provencal and olive-crushed potatoes gets rave reviews. The sophisticated and comfortably casual space is colored by European posters, baskets overflowing with fresh produce from local farms and an amazing cast-glass bar, courtesy of Portland's George Batho. Kimberly Paley, the ever-present magician at the front of the house (mirroring her husband in the kitchen), makes sure patrons are warmly welcomed and taken care of. Prepare to swoon over dessert: Sample delicious assorted aged cheeses or tuck into a warm chocolate souffle cake served with honey-vanilla ice cream. -- Liz Crain

There is a reason this place is popular. I suggest going to the website to see what's on the menu as it changes seasonally. Sustainability is a big thing at Paley's. http://www.paleysplace.net

Portland Jewel

Every Spring we have visiting friends from California who love dining here. They rave about the meal to their friends between visits. This year was no exception, superb food, intimate setting, and great service. Truly a Portland jewel.

It reminded my of Le Ommellete a few years back, down on Yamhill. I enjoyed Paley's and will return, the next time with guests. However, as a handicapped, valet parking does not appear in their ad. Do they offer it in that "close" neighborhood?
