Jake's glows with a luxurious patina of burnished woods, handsome tailored tones and polished age, creating an atmosphere that is fitting for a restaurant entering into its second century of business. Originally founded in 1892 to showcase crawfish, the crustaceans are still on the menu but mostly a side note. The oldest restaurant in Portland, Jake's is a stellar seafood establishment with a "big city" bustling and high-volume ambience. Their "fresh sheet" comprises a varied list of fish and seafood that changes literally with "catch of the day", fresh daily arrivals. Try the Quinault razor clams when in season, fresh oysters on the half shell, bouillabaisse, crab cakes, salmon with a honey glaze, seafood chili, tuna "black and blue," red rockfish with roasted red pepper butter. Beef eaters can choose from among four steaks and bargain hunters will want to check out the killer happy hour menu offering everything from Caesar salads to salmon cakes at low, low prices. Dessert is worth saving room for and the Chocolate Bag not to be missed: dark chocolate shaped like a small paper bag and filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh berries. Along with dishes solidly prepared and beautifully presented, the service is among the best you'll find in the city. The wine list is comprehensive, if not particularly deep. The wait for a table is notorious.

The Best!!
By susuzro on 05/15/2007
I was at Jake's three nights ago with a friend from out of town and had a drink at the bar where we struck up a conversation with a man visiting from Detroit and a woman from Dallas. Both raved about Jake's. The woman was here on business and had eaten there four times that week. I live downtown Portland and always take people from out of town to Jake's. They love it. I have never had a bad meal there. Save room for the three berry cobbler when it is in season!!

Very Good but not outstanding
By taskmaster1967 on 02/18/2007
I had the pacific rockfish dipped in parmesean cheese and grilled. The veggies served with it are very fresh, the garlic mashed potatoes were just okay. it feels more like a chain, if that is what you are looking for. What was outstanding were the desserts. i especially like the fact that they have mini desserts (triple berry cobbler, pots de creme and creme brulee that were all excellent. the warm apple walnut cobbler was awesome with rich vanilla bean ice cream

Good Etoufee and appetizers

Jake’s Famous Crawfish is supposed to be one of the best seafood joints in town. I arrived in a party of 8 around 6:30pm. We had reservations, but there was a slight wait. The place was very popular; all the tables were occupied the entire night. The interior was poor man’s version of Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak, and Stone Crab in Chicago. The last time I was at Joe’s, I had an excellent blackened mahi-mahi, and given Jake’s reputation, I had high expectations. Read the rest at http://www.andycho.com/archives/37
