When this place opened a few years ago, its literal-minded owners christened it for the property's lot number. That may sound unimaginative, but this souped-up neighborhood spot packs plenty of charm -- the dark wood bar, slat floors, brick walls decked with nostalgic photos of Pittsburgh and original tin ceiling make it a consistent favorite among the younger crowd. The midpriced menu eschews burgers and fries for more sophisticated American fare, which includes grilled snapper, chicken diablo and sandwiches stuffed with crab cakes and battered fish. Want a taste of the West Coast? Check out the trendy California-style wraps (made with chicken and steak), as well as the salads sprinkled with feta cheese and fried leeks. If you can't scarf a whole meal, munch on steak strips, wings and pita pizzas. In fair weather, Lot 17 offers patio dining. During winter, meanwhile, venture upstairs for some cozy quality time with the microbrew selection. In a neighborhood overflowing with tried-and-true Italian fare, Lot 17 makes a most welcome addition.
