Rate and Write a Review Whether or not you're headed to the theater, this Cultural District spot is sure to bring down the house. The specialty here is Portuguese cuisine, which fuses the flavors of India, Brazil and Africa with unique sauces and blends. Consider kicking off your meal with caldo verde, a potato-and-kale soup served vegetarian-style or with sausage, then segue to Cafe Zao's sweet paquillo peppers stuffed with fresh goat cheese and apple. A mild curry sauce flavors the shellfish goa, with brings together clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp and crayfish, while serra cheese adds flavor to filet mignon. Here, the atmosphere is as cultured as the cuisine, with abstract art by Squirrel Hill's Robert Robinson and curtains made with fabric imported from China. A smaller dining room, lined with symbols of the Chinese zodiac, would make a perfect spot for a birthday party.
