Located between the ever-expanding Shadyside Hospital and Bloomfield's Auto Row, this cozy spot sticks out like a sore thumb. Housed in one of Shadyside's gorgeous old homes, Cafe Sam brings some much-needed grace to the bustling crossroads of Oakland, Shadyside and Bloomfield. The menu is a little hard to describe; if made to choose, diners would probably pick "Italian," and certainly the pasta and seafood dishes are popular. Some touches of French cuisine slip in as well -- both duck and escargot appear in various locations on the menu. With its cozy atmosphere and attractive setting, Cafe Sam draws heavily from the local college crowd, as well as both younger and older professionals.
