Location, location, location. If there's one major drawback to quaffing a pint of the black stuff at Silky's, it's the ugly no-man's land of Liberty Avenue, through which you'll have to tread to get here, where Bloomfield turns into used car dealerships before becoming Shadyside. The bar itself, while certainly prettier, is something of an odd duck as well: a wannabe British pub with nothing more exotic than Guinness and Bass on tap, and with a conspicuously out of place row of six television sets above the bar. But if you want to have an Old World experience without leaving the neighborhood, Silky's can't be beat. The decor is a homey mix of County Claire comfort and English country charm, and with a menu of pasta entrees and sandwiches, you'll have something to keep you busy between glasses of Stella Artois and the next showing of Sports Center. Fittingly, the crowd at Silky's is a bit of a mixed bag as well: neighborhood hipsters, the occasional gay couple, Indian doctors from the nearby West Penn hospital hanging out during the bar's happy hour. On second thought, maybe Silky's has the expat feel down pat after all.

Great Hang Bar
By scriptgirl on 11/01/2006
The food is very good. It may be slighly more expensive than Gators but well worth it. The have drink special every weekday night and the clientele are great. A great mix of fun and educated people. I know people who live a good distance away who come to Silky's on a regular basis. It is worth the stop.

EXPENSIVE~LOWER CLIENTELE
By mookieplush on 07/03/2006
Prices are very high in comparison to other pubs and bars in the neighborhood which you would think would bring in a higher clientele, but people who work around the pub frequent the bar and use profanity. Not a nice atmosphere.

Nice place, expensive
By maierato on 04/08/2005
It's a nice place but it's more expensive than other places in Bloomfield. They also increase prices during special events! Bad Business! During Guinness Toast Night, a Pint of Guinness at Silky's: $5. That same pint at Gator's Saloon also in Bloomfield on that same night: $2.50 (February 2005). Buyer Beware.
