It sits in the shadows of a high-rise retirement home, and it's just down the street from the Mesa Police Department, hardly an area where you'd expect to find hippies or artisans. But, tucked away on a rear lot, is an outlandish, gaily painted, historic two-story house that's the talk of the Valley. It's Coffee Talk, the whimsical, funky coffeehouse that often wins "Best of Phoenix" recognition for its coffees and gourmet lunches. It's unlikely you'll find two matching tables or chairs in the indoor haven of hodgepodge, or even a place to sit. Most of the seating is outside in the yard. Presided over by actor/philosopher/raconteur owner Sean Kapero, Coffee Talk offers an endless array of coffee drinks. Hot, iced, chocolate, whipped cream -- the java options are endless. At lunch time, a marker-board menu features a handful of filling sandwiches, from curried chicken salad to peanut butter and jelly. The menu includes an enticing list of deserts. Coffee Talk is also known for its nightly entertainment, ranging from comedy routines and musical acts to open-mike nights and poetry slams. Owner Kapero has few rules at Coffee Talk, but he has two that are strictly enforced: No smoking and no credit cards. -- Cecil Tuck

New Owner...AWFUL change
By veronica1632 on 11/11/2007
This place has recently switched owners and is not the eclectic place that it once was. Before it felt like you had stumbbled into this magical mad hatter world...coffee cups appeared to go through the windows, beautiful water features, a very lush garden. The new owners have stripped this place of all originality...tearing out everthing that was unique, replacing it with a very "starbucks" look. But the worse part is the "organic" coffee is HORRIBLE now and they purchase all there pastries from COSTCO!!!

unique

Coffee Talk is definately a unique place and an attraction I like to take friends. It's a place where you feel comfortable to relax and have a good conversation with good company while enjoy a VERY good cup of coffee. All my friends that I have taken here feel honored that I have introduced them to the coffee house and in turn, take their friends. Coffee Talk is definately a place everyone should experience for themselves!

Best in Town

Coffee Talk is a pleasant escape from the busy city. J.P. offers hospitality and warm conversation. The coffee is fresh ground and delicious. It is a oasis in the middle of the chaos of the city. You will truly enjoy this experience.
