In one scene, Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper are famously refused at the Pine Breeze Inn, which was enough for the small Arizona town of Bellemont to make its claim as a biker haven, even though the inn itself is now little more than an abandoned shack on the side of Route 66, where bikers still camp out in homage to their counterculture heroes. Just down the road, the Route 66 Roadhouse, although not featured in the film, capitalizes on the town's cinematic fame, and has become a roadside attraction in its own right. Motorcycle wheels lie beneath glass table tops and a Harley Davidson jukebox belts out hard-rockin' tunes in the corner, while leather-clad bikers swill frosty brews. Bellemont may be a small burg, but it's large enough to boast its own chapter of the Hell's Angels, who have held several annual charity events at the roadhouse. The kitsch is furthered by the chef: you. Yup, you cook your own meat over a gas grill -- kind of like shabu shabu, only... not. Conveniently located a carburetor's throw down the road is Harley Davidson's local outpost, where those not already equipped with a Hog can saddle up for a ride to the nearby Grand Canyon.
