Rate and Write a Review From what was literally a shack Johnny Hots has moved to a stout cinderblock building with a bright red roof on the Delaware Waterfront just off Columbia Avenue and near the entrance to the I-95. The billboard advertising Johnny Hot's "famous hot sausage" looms directly above the building, making it hard to miss. Johnny Hots is takeout-only and closes in mid-afternoon on weekdays, so its main gig is lunch -- cheesesteaks, hot dogs, pork sandwiches, hot grilled sausage (comes with sauted onions and green peppers). The cheesesteaks are sliced, not chopped. The buns in hot dogs are more like dinner rolls, yet not as crusty. A breakfast version of the hot grilled sausage is mixed with a fried egg. Perhaps the most popular Johnny Hots specialty is a roast pork sandwich with Provolone and greens. It has been receiving accolades for its garlicky broccoli rabe and the quality of its meat. Finally, the honorable mention goes to Johhny Hots' Philadelphia Surf and Turf, which is a fish cake that is grilled, split and then mashed into the roll.
