If you're thinking about dining at Cuba Libre before catching a movie at the Ritz, arrive early, because unreserved seats are rare at this deservedly popular Old City restaurant. The decor may be more Hollywood's version of old Havana than the real thing, but it is spectacular. Couples, families and large groups of friends find themselves in a makeshift city square replete with building facades, palm trees and vines hanging down from the second story windows. On nice nights, you can venture outside to dine under the stars, but why chance the weather when the outdoors has been imported inside? You can run up a hefty tab because there are so many consumable delights: Besides over 60 varieties of rum, delicious and distinctive appetizers such as guava ribs, crab fritters and sweet potatoes filled with beef picadillo should be ordered abundantly for the table. Generous entree portions of Ropa Vieja (stewed, shredded skirt steak) and lecon asado will leave you almost too stuffed to move. But stay and leave room for a cup of cafe Cuba Libre, and forget about the movie. -- Josh McIlvain

What A Great Time
By dc909 on 02/15/2007
We recently went to Philadelphia to visit our son. Our first night there he took us to Cuba Libra. We loved it! The food was wonderful and we loved the atmosphere. We had a pitcher of Sangria which added to the fun! I am looking forward to going back the next time we visit Philadelphia!

Best Cuban Ribs
By vatv on 02/05/2007
Husband and I checked out Cuba Libre after seeing it on TV in our hotel room TV. Got lured in by the Mojhitos! Well worth the money but call ahead. Oh yes, the Cuban Ribs are to die for and the smoldering seveche is so cool!

I love this place!!
By outburst3880 on 09/12/2006
I've been here twice on 2 special occasions. Luckily I wasn't paying either time because it'll cost you about $100 a person with drinks, apps, dinner and dessert to share. But you won't be disappointed!! The ceviche had amazing flavor, the black bean soup was out of this world and all of our dinners were really wonderful. It's not exactly "Cuban" but more like a fusion type place as most of the Starr restuarants are. The service was great both times, attentive but not annoying and friendly. My favorite spot for mojitos! I would recommend this place to everyone who wants food with flavor!
