Deep in the heart of vegan territory in West Philly, you can't expect to open, say, a Tony Luke's style hoagie joint and not hear an outcry about it. So the good folks at Fuwah came up with a delicious, non-carnivorous sandwich for all their animal-loving friends: The fried tofu hoagie has just the right amount of zip, coming from the blazing combination of jalopenos and Sriacha sauce (the very same hot sauce used in their sister restaurant, Vietnam), but the heat is curbed expertly by a generous sprinkling of fresh cilantro, whose zesty aroma fills the whole store. Fuwah hasn't forgotten their more traditional customers either, offering a range of loaded, meat-based hoagies, like the turkey breast or the Italian, and they do sell their excellent cold cuts by the pound. After you order your sandwich, you can browse through the small-but-loaded grocery shelves in hungry anticipation of the coming meal. The shelves are stocked with items ranging from Tilex to frozen coconut, so you should be able to stock up and keep yourself occupied until your tasty order is ready for consumption.
