Transit does the huge club thing right, with less of the attitude and pretension of the infamous Delaware Avenue behemoths. With three floors that usually feature different types of music, there's something here for almost anyone who's into the club life. A typical night normally includes a guest DJ playing house, techno or hip-hop on the main floor, with additional DJs manning the turntables on the other floors. The club occasionally hosts Making Time and other one-offs, which attract a scruffier crowd than the usually well-coiffed crew that comes through Transit's doors. Be sure to watch for shows, often produced by local indie promoters R5 Productions, that feature everything from punk rock to underground hip-hop; these are usually all-ages, though Transit is regularly 21 and up. While technically a 'private' club (which allows it to stay open after-hours) memberships are available to all for $25 per year. -- Doree Shafrir
