The only adult entertainment venue in downtown Peoria is Big Al's Speakeasy, where women let their hair (and clothes) down on one of three colossal stages. Since 1965, tourists from as far away as China have come to this rather spacious bar, which holds up to 600 people with VIP seating in the rear. Though the joint is usually dimly lit (except for the ladies working under the stage spotlights), the lighting can change from red to yellow to blue depending on the mood of the evening. For those interested in more than just bare essentials, live rock bands hit the stage on the whim of the management or on special occasions such as New Year's Eve. Big Al's has a full bar, and the kitchen is willing to rustle up various appetizers and entrees, including the club's popular barbecue ribs, ribeye steak, cheeseburgers and Philadelphia-style cheesesteaks. While Big Als frequently arranges group deals for bachelor parties, its probably most famous for hosting the Miss Nude Illinois Contest in late January.
