Oversized portions and moderate prices account in large part for Mi Casa's success. The food is hearty and tasty, but far from gourmet. When in doubt, the cook tends to throw on extra cheese or sauce. It makes for great "wet burritos" (a specialty of the house), but doesn't necessarily earn points for authenticity. Still, locals have kept coming back for the burritos, tacos, enchiladas and other no-frills staples since the restaurant first opened in the early '70s. The free chips and salsa also earn lots of praise, and if you don't mind spending a couple dollars, guacamole is a worthy upgrade. The decor doesn't seem to have changed much in the past 30 years. Dim lighting and slightly scuffed furnishings are offset by cheerful ornaments and smiley servers. This is a family operation in every sense of the word. A family owns and operates it, and families have made up the bulk of the business since the restaurant first opened its doors. -- Lena Katz

It was a real struggle getting my food served without the tons of melted cheese all over it. It is almost as if the restaurant wants to hide something. I would love to try the combination plate again, but please: NO CHEESE or at least, on the side.

Casa de Queso

We call this place the "house of cheese." Food tastes like it was made from canned ingredients, including the salsa.
