All it takes is a taste of the the salsa to realize this isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. That's right. No watered-down product here. In fact, the salsa has more heat and character than 100 packets of Del Taco's Del Scorcho sauce. The menu, filled with tacos, enchiladas, burritos and taquitos, isn't as extensive as some of your bigger Mexican sit-down restaurants, but you find specialties like hominy soup (posole). The tamales, in the New Mexican style, are chunky treats, as are the ranchera and enchilada sauces that have the dark look and spicy flavor often associated with Santa Fe-style cooking. If you can take the heat, try the super-hot carne adovada. Its chunks of pork are slightly pink around the edges, not from undercooking, but from a 24-hour soak in red chile marinade. These roasted, lean bits are seriously spicy -- the kind of food that can change your mood and body temperature in a single bite. -- Michael Alarcon

Killer Enchiladas
By tamtammytamara on 01/28/2004
I have been a loyal Anita's customer for over 20 years. I usually order the enchiladas or the sopapillas....both very good. This place has delicious food at a reasonable price, and the inside tables are perfect for family dining. The rear area of the restaurant has a small outside patio...perfect for those NOT looking for a family atmosphere.
