Rate and Write a Review Fans of spicy Spanish cuisine rave about Spanish Sangria, an authentic Iberian outpost in Newark's Ironbound District. A neighborhood staple for more than 20 years, Spanish Sangria is known for its impeccably prepared seafood dishes and pitch-perfect paella. It's also one of the few area restaurants with no inhibitions where garlic is concerned, flavoring most entrees with liberal doses of the stinking rose. The festive, cavernous dining room attracts regulars ranging from boisterous families to conferencing professionals, drawn by dramatic specialties such as seafood in Diablo sauce and grilled shrimp (which, squeamish eaters should be warned, are served with their heads intact). True to its name, this old-school taberna also makes a mean pitcher of sangria -- the better to counteract the inevitable onslaught of garlic breath. -- Julia Clinger
