Cafe Eclectic's double storefront is a refreshing haven on bustling Bloomfield Avenue. The non-smoking section hosts simple cafe tables and a coffee and dessert bar, while the smoking lounge holds a collection of mismatched furniture more thrift shop hodge-podge than shabby chic. The vibe here is cool and unfussy, so it's almost impossible to resist the urge to get comfy in the lounge. The name best describes the diversity of offerings at this funky spot: Colombian coffee, live music and comedy on certain nights, forgettable medieval-themed decor, a karaoke night, a gallery of artwork on the walls, and a killer "medieval wrapper" sandwich of turkey, brie, mint-apple jelly and mixed greens. Students with no money relax on couches next to antique shoppers in frenzied lunch-mode. It's easy to stay here longer than expected, so concentrate on the drink and dinner menus, which promise icy concoctions like the iced after-dinner mint coffee or melted goodness like vanilla chai or apple caramel a la mode.

great spot

Nice place to spread out your laptop and paperwork during the day Great service as always and the new menu is impressive Those negative reviews about the coffee must be confused, because I'ev always enjoyed their drinks Probably disgruntled customers who, as I've seen before, are still a bit miffed about having to take their disgusting and BARE feet off of the lounge tables. Really, people, those couches may be very comfortable, but at the very least remember that those tables are for EATING not foot rests. It really is sad - Thom

Great Cafe!

Cafe Eclectic is one of the reasons I moved to Montclair. Open long hours, interesting art. Good coffee and selection of drinks. I especially like the paninis and salads. The staff are very cool and it's a friendly place to hang out. During the day there's plenty of space and wifi, you can relax without feeling like you are being rushed out. At night, love the occasional live music and karaoke, it's good music and a friendly crowd.

Clearly the two reviews below do not offer a clear , or True Experience at Cafe Eclectic, It had been a few years since my Last Trip to the cafe , and My how they Changed!!! The Lounge is now Smoke Free, which I enjoyed, (although I did miss the smokey ambiance), The Coffee was as good as I had remembered, and the Brownie melt was as warm and delicious as ever . Its quiet a shame that the two reviews below have sullied this list , But if you read thru the rest , I think you will find that Positive is the only way to say anything about this Place I will be returning often now that I'm back in the area!! Congratulations Cafe Eclectic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY ACTUALLY WON?

I went there one night on the weekend, and let me just tell you, The Coffee tasted like it was made a few days ago or something. I asked for a fresh cup, and again it tasted exactly the same. Then the cakes looked very delicious at first but when my wife and i got to taste it, it wasn't that very delicious.... it tasted very dry. I was Very Disappointed with this Cafe. I will never go here again..
