Why look to government to solve the economic problems of our post-industrial age, when bars like Aldo's are taking care of business? Aldo's in Lyndhurst has taken up the mantle of the dispossessed by offering Recession Sundays, when regulars can enjoy 50-cent drafts and talk about the good old days. But the cheap beers aren't the only remnant from a simpler time. The DJs at Aldo's draw heavily from Goth and synth-pop bands from the '80s and regularly host theme nights dedicated to New Order, Adam Ant, and other icons from MTV's blessed infancy. Newcomers may be put off by the literal and figurative darkness at Aldo's (some patrons dress like they're auditioning for 'The Real World: Hell'), but fear not. It's perfectly clean inside, and plenty of regulars come as they are. Actually, it's like a utopian vision of high school: Separate cliques exist, but everyone really does get along. -- Matt Cheplic
