This was an experience . A wonderful; experience. The food was wonderful and portions were quite enough. This is fine dining at it's best. My daugter and I began our adventure at 9pm and completed this wonderful trip at 11pm. The wait staff was just primo. The food delicious. I must say his staff treated us in a manner which was deserving of the 40% tip I left. Which I never have done before. Thank you all for the wonderful evening. It was on March 14,2004 in New York.

Vong is a chic establishment with an accomplished wait-staff.The French influenced Thai cusine is for those who prefer their spices coming at them from all corners.There is no shyness for flavor here. Every dish is beautifully presented and served with genuine Thai imported dishes and utensils.We tried the chef's tasting menu,which had a small but tasty portion of venison served appropriately rare, and another of Black cod with sauteed tender steamed cabbage.The signature appetizer dish was a varied tasting plate suitable for two, served with four savory,spicy,piquant sauces chosen for their affinity to each tasty morsel.All dishes including a chicken-coconut soup that was brimming with fresh shitake mushrooms, were paired with appropriate wines that complemented the spices and flavors of each.Of course the wine pairings ran an additional $35 per person.The dessert, a chocolate molten cake stood out from many of these renditions that have appeared all over. Maybe it was the cocoa dusting over the cake and the plate which was nestled next to a wonderfully subtle but cooling coconut sorbet and a rich warm chocolate that oozed when cut into. This restaurant is not for the meat and potatoes set. The portions were small but somehow we were well satisfied.The menu has a three course pre-theater offering that is a good value.Prices are to be expected for this level of cuisine but cocktails and wine by the glass can run a bit steep.

The ambience is warm, the decor beautiful, the cuisine perfection and the service excellent. Can recommend the black plate appetizers and the tasting menu. Our server, Denna, was friendly and cheerful. The maitre d'started our evening off with a smile, setting the pace for a very special dining experience.

Amazing food, Amazing atmosphere. Definatly a great place to go for dinner and stay all night. Yah, the waitstaff isnt the best, but its a trendy NY restaurant and thats just how it goes.
