Rate and Write a Review Often referred to as the "enfant terrible of modern French cooking", Jean-Georges Vongerichten is by now one of the most celebrated chefs in the world. Paying homage to both himself and Far Eastern cuisine, Vong -- which also boasts locations in Hong Kong and London -- is one of the Strasbourg-born boy wonder's New York flagships, along with JoJo, Mercer Kitchen, Jean Georges and 66. The overall effect is like an elegant ride on the Orient Express viewed through expensive European eyeglasses. Both the decor and cuisine are Thai-French and tasteful. Ubiquitous designer David Rockwell's dining room is a kaleidoscopic vision of warm golds and reds, raised seating, dramatic entranceways and silky lighting. Imaginative, exotic and refined, the dreamy dishes use herbs and spices that are -- according to some regular expense-accounters -- as addictive as drugs. You half-expect Marlene Dietrich to ask for a bite of your lobster Thai rolls or monkfish and rabbit curry. And if she did, you'd decline, because Bangkok itself doesn't boast kaffir lime tart this bold.
