With Union Square Cafe, it can be hard to tell where the meal ended and the myth began. When it opened in 1985, star restaurateur Danny Meyer's groundbreaking eatery was as fresh as the ingredients he collects from the Farmer's Market in nearby Union Square. Numerous Zagat accolades, tons of tourists and a tray of imitators later, the concept -- upscale, unpretentious, Italian-tinged New American cuisine -- may no longer be fresh; luckily, the ingredients and the beautiful people still are. Still in-demand are the crispy lemon-pepper duck, the shell steak, the onion-and-gorgonzola risotto and the wasabi mashed potatoes. The legendary quality of the waitstaff makes this a standout in a city where service is generally subpar. But the big ticket item remains the burger (both the yellowfin tuna and the USC beef), which is worth the price of admission.

Perfection
By JRArboleda2401 on 06/04/2008
Danny Meyer's masterpiece weds outstanding food, presentation and ser\vice in a room where you can read the menu, see the food and converse without shouting. It is the restaurant of my choice whenever I am able to suggest it and it certainly deserves every star the constellation of restaurant ratings offers.

We went there for our anniversary. Everything was perfect, from appetizer to dessert. The service was outstanding; not too overbearing or snotty. It is my favorite restaurant in NYC!!!

Wow!

My eating accomadations in NYC are by far at USC. The great service and the amazing food really sets off the mood of the amazing dining area. My personal waitress was Carolyn, she was so much fun. I went on my birthday and she gave my a fudge brownie with hot fudge and whip cream. In conclusion....if you get the chance to go to NYC then go! And eat at Union Square Cafe! Believe me you will not be disappointed!
