Though it's a stone's throw away from established neighborhood spots like Thai Pavilion and Ubol's Kitchen, this newer kid on the block is holding its own in the land of Astoria Thai. To attract the area's booming twenty- and thirtysometing population, it plays hip music and offers a light, airy look with pale walls, brightly colored modern art, and floor-to-ceiling windows that open up out onto the street. But that doesn't mean the cuisine is anything short of authentic or savory. With entrees ranging from $6.25-$11.50, Thai Angel serves seven original curries, eight noodle specials, six traditional rice plates and a host of chicken, duck, beef, pork and seafood dishes served with fragrant jasmine rice. Vegetarians are also in luck with more than 20 menu options, including Angel Spice Noodles and Pad Tofu Ginger. On the soup front, try the tangy Tom Ka Gai ($3.50), with chicken, mushrooms and limejuice. -- Michelle Pepe
