Philippe Chow was not the Mr. Chow, but now he is the Philippe. Though the Hong Kong-trained chef engineered the menu at the famed Mr. Chow restaurant for over 20 years, the owner was a different Mr. Chow. Here, it's all him. A modern and minimalist multi-level Upper East Side space houses the chic Chinese restaurant, which looks like something from a Bret Easton Ellis novel (and caters to the same stylish crowd). It's highlighted by a lower-level wine cellar, wall-hugging glossy black banquettes and red bar stools. No Shanghai surprise here -- most of the gourmet menu is cut from the same traditional cloth as Mr. Chow's (though the prices are slightly trimmed). Start with shark-fin soup, salt and pepper prawns and Singapore handmade noodles with shrimp and curry sauce. Prepare to share the entrees, which include fish jo lau (garlic-sauteed fluke), Peking duck and stir-fried lamb in brown sauce. A 10-course chef's tasting menu is popular, as is the 8PM nightly live hand-pulled noodle demonstration.

high price hoe spot
By mibny on 03/15/2006
If you want a so called over priced meet a hoe spot...this is the place. These heffas love to walk down the aisle like its some damn cat walk. Shoot over to Mainland for better food and ambiance. Waiters need to do a better job on service than pushing high priced water and wine on you

Shame on you
By alxmichelle on 02/26/2006
I was told that the girl with Ugg boots were in charge of seating after waiting to check in for a while. Your staff doesn't even know how to say hello properly. It's pretty disgusting that you are trying to pass off as Mr Chow but how long can you fool everyone? Not everyone is as dumb as you are.

Rude reservation staff
By kfk13 on 02/23/2006
we are long time patrons of Mr Chow, and live in the Sutton neighborhood. we were going to try this restaurant for the first time. I called to make a reservation. the female I spoke with on the phone had such an attitude, was such a witch, that we will never, ever, step foot in this knock-off. they must be so terribly successful that they do not need any new customers. don't trouble them with your reservation request. let it rot.
